Just a warning, there’s going to be quite a lot of education chat on here. This post is called Education 1… get ready for Education 584792922. Education is my big thing and one of my life’s ambitions is to solve educational disadvantage to provide a useful, creative and effective education – no matter where children live, no matter what environment they grow up in, no matter how bad the stakes look. I’m so lucky to have had such an amazing education and I want to make sure that everyone can have access to the opportunities that I have. This article (Education 1) follows a report which focused on how education has been transformed in Tower Hamlets in London. (For the actual report see here) It’s inspiring to hear that one of the worst areas in the UK has turned things around so dramatically – and it’s an exciting challenge to think how this transformation can help other areas of the country. Although Oxford is one of the intellectual hubs of the world, the state schools around the city are surprisingly poor. One has to hope that with the recent investment in Academies (Oxford Academy, Oxford Spires Academy etc.), and staff, a transformation will been seen here shortly too.
